OR Specific Basic Preceptor Course Following the completion of the literature review and the analysis of the AIP Preceptorship Survey results, I began to build a formal presentation to support the blended learning program designed for the development of knowledge, skills and attitudes important to function in the OR preceptor role.

To being the construction of this presentation, I consulted Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) Clinical Nurse Educator Monica Brock MSN, RN, CPAN and Preceptor Program Coordinator Bebe Hoff, RN, MS for their expertise in development and regulation of preceptor training at UCH. I sought out Monica due to the fact she had recently facilitated a perioperative preceptor course that OR staff members attended. I also sought out Bebe to support the creation of the course and to utilize the basic preceptor resources currently sanctioned by Professional Resources. Collaborating with both Monica and Bebe was instrumental to my creation of a distinctive OR specific course. Reviewing the blended learning program with both Monica and Bebe facilitated me to infuse the basic preceptor course's content with newly acquired information and ideas regarding OR preceptorship and to create unique OR specific facilitated discussion scenarios.
Partnering with both Monica and Bebe provided me with the opportunity to experience and participate in the informatics associated with building a preceptor course. For example, I proactively coordinated with Bebe to schedule the course, reserve a classroom, enroll the learners, assign the modules, facilitate the course and generate post-course certification. I also proactively collaborated with Monica to review the objectives and purpose of the facilitated discussion element of the course. Monica encouraged me to review and incorporate the Mosby Online Learning/Elsevier Learning Platform into the dialogue of my presentation. Monica also supported me to author four OR specific facilitated discussion scenarios to engage the learners and to validate the content of the online modules.
Through the influence, support and references provided by Monica and Bebe, I completed an OR Specific Basic Preceptor PowerPoint presentation. The AIP OR Preceptorship PowerPoint follows the same design as the UCH Basic Preceptor presentation however, it includes elements of the literature review and addresses more OR focused resources such as AORN and the OR Weebly education site. Once complete, the PowerPoint presentation was utilized as the primary tool to facilitate the classroom sessions of the OR Specific Basic Preceptor Course. The first session I offered and instructed was on March 25, 2015. This course consisted of six learners including Registered Nurses and Surgical Technologists from the AIP OR. I offered and instructed a second course on May 28, 2015 to Registered Nurses and Surgical Technologists of both the AIP and AOP OR's. Utilization of this presentation assisted me not only keep an organized flow of the course but it also allowed me to stimulate open discussion amongst the learners. The PowerPoint also served as a tangible resource for the learners to take notes and keep for future reference.
Please enjoy reviewing the PowerPoint presentation I created and utilized when instructing the classroom-based facilitated discussion portion of the AIP OR Specific Basic Preceptor Course.
