OR Preceptorship Literature Review In addressing the lack of accessible and applicable OR preceptor resources, I began to research and review current literature related OR specific preceptor programs and preparation. Identifying my subject and focus allowed me to complete a comprehensive literature review of several eligible articles.

Once selecting my subject as healthcare preceptorship, I narrowed the focus to highlight OR specific preceptor programs and preparation. With this, I identified databases and resources to facilitate finding credible text. I utilized the Health Sciences Library as well as the Association of Operating Room Nurses (AORN) Journal to expedite my search. Throughout my search I referenced each article's abstract to review purpose and credibility. I then began to refine my search to recognize the OR focus. Through these filters, I selected six articles and began to read and review their content. Once reviewed, I began analyzing each article. The articles analysis was then organized in a condensed but comprehensive format to identify and summarize purpose and outcomes. Each article recognized a specific focus related to OR preceptorship including: staff experiences, recruitment and retention, selection, orientation, evaluation and value of preceptorship programs.
Following the articles analysis, I began to compare and contrast the outcomes of the literature to the current practice of preparation for preceptors in the AIP OR. By completing this I was able to recognized opportunity for expansion and advancement specifically within my scope to better educate and support the OR preceptors. I chose to put the analysis into practice by entwining the outcomes into the framework of the questions for the staff survey. I authored ten questions based off the critical components addressed throughout the literature review. The AIP OR Preceptorship Survey measured the primary components of the literature review including preceptor role definition and characteristics, selection and frequency precepting, role formality and support, access to training as well as incentives. I also elected to reference and resource the articles continuously throughout the formal presentation of the Preceptorship FOCUS PDCA/AIP OR Preceptorship survey results PowerPoint. The analysis and outcomes of the articles were also cross-referenced and incorporated into the objectives and outcomes of the OR Specific Basic Preceptor Course PowerPoint.
The documents below recognize each article as well as my initial in-text notes. The OR Preceptorship Journal Article Condensed Notes document formats my in-depth analysis of each article, including theoretical framework and Levels of Evidence. Please enjoy reviewing the significant references that supported and shaped both the AIP OR Preceptorship Survey as well as the OR Specific Basic Preceptor Course curriculum and content. Also please review the in-text citations and references list recognizing these articles in both the FOCUS PDCA/Preceptor Survey Results PowerPoint and the OR Specific Basic Preceptor Course PowerPoint.
