Teaching Standard: Intraoperative EPIC Documentation Review
Once the surveys had been analyzed and the initial literature review completed, it was finally time to utilize our third and final reference, the expert-opinions of our stakeholders. Both Kristi and I collaborated to coordinate with the stakeholders to organize and facilitate routine conferences to review and approve Op-Time documentation practices. Meeting with the stakeholders groups was an essential component to the creation and qualification of this teaching tool. To prepare for these meetings, Kristi developed a detailed document titled, EPIC Op-Time Questions as an outline for the stakeholders to review. This outline is a comprehensive document that addressed all subsections of the intraoperative chart.
Once developed, I review this document and supplemented additional comments and/or concerns related to the "grey areas" of the intraoperative chart. As previously mentioned, Kristi and I divided these subsections to assure equal collaboration. The subsections I chose to review include: Pre-op Skin, Site Prep, Positioning, Timeout, Delay, Equipment/Instrumentation, Intraop Medications, Implants, Specimens, Orders, Post-op Skin, PNDS, Verify, Debrief/Handoff and OR Pre-op Checklist. These fifteen subsections were revised under my review and the current standing documentation standards are product of my authorship.
Both the stakeholders group, Kristi and myself utilized this document throughout our conferences to highlight not only our personal questions and/or concerns but also to address the questions and concerns that had been relayed through the survey data and free text comment results. The documents below recognize Kristi's original Op-Time outline as well as my own personal notes related to feedback of the stakeholders group concerning my specific subsections of this outline. The subsections that I chose to represent and review are highlighted within the documents.

Teaching Standard: Intraoperative EPIC Documentation Meeting Minutes
Through our collaborative efforts, Kristi and I both scheduled and facilitated almost weekly meetings with the stakeholders to discuss this project. Reaching out to the stakeholders group was an informative and effective method to review and produce standards for drafting the intraoperative documentation practices. Their unique professional experiences contributed substantial support and rationale essential to the creation and foundation of this tool. By contributing their expert opinions, Kristi and I were able validate their contributions and cultivated sustained standards for the document. The documents below highlight the meeting minutes from these conferences with the stakeholders group as well as my notes to translate into the teaching standard from the meeting minutes. The meeting minutes that I both completed and distributed to the group for review are recognized via my role as the the Scribe. Also the topics of which I lead discussion can be identified in the meeting minutes under the role of Discussion Leader.
