Prominent Proficient Preceptor Preceptorship is a significant passion that I proactively seek to practice and perfect. Throughout my career as a Clinical RN, I have come to realize how essential this relationship is to foster both growth and development and to provide quality patient care and safety.

Since joining the UCH family, I have developed progressive care practices that allow me to provide and promote positive experiences and holistic healing. A primary role that allows me to achieve this is through preceptorship. Preceptorship is a unique teaching-learning relationship that requires both personal and professional leadership. This relationship and leadership is an innate characteristic of my nursing practice and supports me in establishing effective connections with my peers and patients.
As a Clinical RN in the OR, preceptorship has a unique and significant purpose both for staff success and retention as well as for patient safety. Therefore, it is imperative that appropriate preceptor assignments are made in order to create conditions in which this special relationship with thrive. I am continuously sought out to help facilitate such conditions for new staff as well as students due to my passion to inspire and mentor others. It is because of my commitment to lead and support my peers that I am recognized and excel as a prominent and proficient preceptor. My own personal experiences as a preceptee have also been instrumental in building my passion and success in preceptorship.
I was recognized for my advanced ability to precept and began precepting within four months of being hired. I was also approached with the opportunity to obtain preceptor certification eight months after my hire date. Not only was I honored to be recognized for my practice, but I was also humble in knowing that my leadership and management staff were confident in my growth and development as professional nurse. At this point in time, I obtained certification through the UCH Basic Preceptor Course. Since this certification, I have not only frequently precepted but I have also advanced my practice by joining and being elected as the co-chair of the OR Preceptorship Council, creating an OR Specific Basic Preceptor Course and obtaining certification to facilitate classroom presentations of preceptor course training sessions.
Through my growth and development as a prominent proficient preceptor, I have also been encouraged to continue to discovery new professional opportunities and to continue to pursue lifelong learning in my career. I have enjoyed rising to this advanced level of practice through my preceptorship experiences and look forward to future precepting opportunities to come.
The documents below are Preceptor Evaluations that I have received from both nursing students as well as orientees (new hire OR staff) that I have precepted over the past year. Please enjoy reviewing each evaluation in that each review addresses my unique connection and passion for preceptorship.

Preceptorship Hours
Since obtaining my certification to precept, I have had the opportunity to precept several of my peer Clinical Nurses as well as Surgical Technologists that have joined to ranks of the AIP OR. I have also had the unique ability to partner with the OR Clinical Educator as well as the Perioperative Clinical Nurse Scholar to become more involve and invested in preceptorship of student nurses. Below is a combined report obtained from both Lawson and Kronos that reflects the number of hours that I have precepted since June 2014. Please enjoy reviewing how I have devoted a significant amount of time to fostering and supporting this teaching-learning relationship.
OR Preceptorship Council
The OR Preceptorship Council (ORPC) is a unit-based committee dedicated to fostering successful and organized preceptorship practices for the AIP OR. This council is flourishing under the new shared-leadership model and has recently taken on new goals with the revision of our charter and the addition of new committee members. I have had the distinct opportunity to serve on this council both as the Spine Team RN representative and most recently as the council's co-chair. As a member of this council, I have gained more recognition and leadership in my preceptor practices and am frequently resourced by my peers for guidance and approached with ideas and topics to bring to committee. Below are attendance records from the ORPC meetings I have both attended and facilitated.
