OR Specific Basic Preceptor Course Post Survey Results
Following the facilitated classroom sessions of the OR Specific Preceptor Course, I initiated the surveying process to obtain data from the learners about their perceptions of the course. I consider follow up to be an essential component to monitor the effectiveness and satisfaction of the course. To complete this process I developed a brief seven question survey to review their observations concerning the value of the course. This survey was developed in conjunction and for comparison with the Professional Resources survey. This survey is routinely disseminated to the learners by the Preceptor Program Coordinator, Bebe Hoff, in order to obtain post-course certification.
Development of the OR Specific Basic Preceptor Post-Course Survey was mirrored after the question criteria utilized in the AIP OR Preceptorship Survey distributed to staff in October 2014. The concept of mirroring the questions was to contrast pre-intervention with post-intervention survey results and measure usefulness of the course implementation. I chose to utilize my survey in conjunction with the certification survey from Professional Resources in order to more accurately assess the concentration of the OR specific elements. The Professional Resources certification survey provided more generalized data concerning the structure and curriculum required to fulfill a UCH Preceptor Course versus the OR specific elements. In order to obtain more data supporting the need OR focused training, I also elected to resource the certification surveys from the two most recent Perioperative Preceptor Course's facilitated by Monica Brock. Because OR staff had attended these courses prior to the implementation of the OR Specific Basic Preceptor Course, the data from these surveys was applicable to my research and even addressed need for more OR focused training.
Following the design I established for surveying via AIP OR Preceptorship FOCUS PDCA, I waited to disseminate the survey to the learners until four weeks post-course training. I partnered with Bebe Hoff to obtain the survey results from the Professional Resources Preceptor Program certification survey within twenty-four hours post-course implementation. Considering the intimate class sizes, it was relatively simple to assess the surveys. I elected to review the surveys individually and then compared the data of the two to evaluate the value of the course both for the staff as well as for the UCH organization. The data from the surveys were conclusive with my premise that OR specific training and resource identification would encourage and support OR preceptors.
The documents below reveal the post-course survey data results from each of the OR Specific Basic Preceptor Courses I facilitated. The results of both Professional Resources Preceptor Program surveys and my own surveys include descriptive analysis and graphs to display the entire surveys data. The survey results from Monica's Perioperative Preceptor Course are also included in that they served as reference as well as support in the development of the OR specific course. Please enjoy reviewing the survey results and analysis to assess how the implementation of this intervention successfully supports continued offerings of the OR Specific Basic Preceptor Course.

Professional Resources post-course survey
The graphs below illustrate the learners responses as to what I believe are the most weighted and influential questions stemming from the OR Specific Basic Preceptor Course post-certification Professional Resources Survey. The comparison chart from Monica Brock's Perioperative Preceptor Course which included a mix of Pre-op, OR and PACU staff are also provided below. This course data was instrumental in the development of the OR Specific Basic Preceptor Course and overall improvements in effectiveness related to the OR preceptorship.
In regards to staff's evaluation comments suggesting OR specific content, there is tangible comparison as to how the OR specific course provided marked improvement from the Perioperative Preceptor Course. This data can be reviewed by the weighted average calculation in question #7 of the Professional Resources post-certification survey. To review raw data of survey results weighted average calculations please review the PDF files below. The weighted average of the Perioperative course facilitated by Monica Brock on 11/13/14 was 3.42 and 3.33 on 2/12/15. This value increased to 3.67 on 3/25/15 and to 4.0 on 5/28/15 with implementation of the OR Specific Basic Preceptor Course that I facilitated. This represents a 15% improvement in "helpfulness of the case studies" when OR specific content was presented to the learners. Please reference graphs below for a visual aid to compare and contrast questions #1 and question #7 of the two courses survey results. For a comprehensive review of all survey data with results analysis, please review the Word document links below.
